About Duration Formats

Decimal Hours for Payroll

Most payroll systems use decimal hours. For example, 7 hours and 30 minutes is entered as 7.50 hours. Quarter-hour rounding (0.25) is common for timesheets.

ISO 8601 Duration Format

ISO 8601 durations start with "P" for period, followed by optional days (D), then "T" for time, followed by hours (H), minutes (M), and seconds (S). Example: P1DT2H30M means 1 day, 2 hours, and 30 minutes.
